Katie Taylor: Chantelle Cameron keen to be Irish fighter's opponent in retirement bout, say promoters MVP

Chantelle Cameron's promoters say they "would love" for the Brit to be Katie Taylor's opponent in the legendary Irish fighter's final professional contest later this year.

Taylor, 39, announced on Wednesday that she plans to retire following a home summer fight, which she hopes can take place at Croke Park in Dublin.

The only blemish on Taylor's 25-1 professional record came when she lost to Cameron in May 2023, before she reversed that result in a rematch six months later.

Taylor retained her undisputed world super lightweight title after edging her third fight against Amanda Serrano - who is also promoted by MVP - in New York last July.

Following Taylor's announcement, Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, told Your Site News: "Katie Taylor is one of the most impactful boxers in history, male or female, and MVP has been fortunate enough to be a part of that impact in a small way.

"As Katie looks to have one final dance in Dublin, we would love for that to be a trilogy with Chantelle Cameron, who is the only loss on Katie's record."

Taylor won gold at the London 2012 Olympics before going on to turn professional in 2016 and winning her first 22 bouts before losing to Cameron.

Cameron, 34, has claimed three successive victories since her loss to Taylor, and will fight Michaela Kotaskova for the WBO super-welterweight title at London's Olympia on Sunday April 5, live on Your Site.

Cameron claimed earlier this month that she would have knocked out Taylor in their first fight had the rounds been three minutes rather than two.

"Katie Taylor was hanging on to me for dear life with two-minute rounds. With three-minute rounds I would have got her out of there," Cameron insisted.

"I've always wanted it [to do threes]. I feel it plays in my favour. I feel like it's definitely going to benefit me."

Cameron's comments came as it was revealed that her April bout against Kotaskova could feature three-minute rounds.

"The plan is for her to do three-minute rounds and we feel very confident that that will be the case," Bidarian said.

"The WBO will be supportive of it and the British Boxing Board of Control we know will be supportive of it as well."
